Dimlight Café: Long Time No See

Hello all who've checked back in on this project over the years!

I'd like to begin with an apology to everybody for not keeping in touch or updating about the struggles I was going through to keep up with Dimlight Cafe. It's definitely shameful to me to get hyped up about this VN and open it up to people who expect a finished product and NOT deliver. So... when I realized updates were going to be fewer and further between (eventually dying out entirely) I stayed away from itch.io and my other platforms so I didn't have to confront the disappointment. That meant that lots of you were wondering where the hell we went! So yes, I'm deeply sorry for that lack of communication.

I'd also like to thank you all for even BEING interested in Dimlight Cafe! Despite my inexperience and lack of discipline, it felt and feels so rewarding to read that you all were very interested in the characters and story enough to check in on the project even after I had given up. The comments were the reason I'd been wanting to come and make this official update. Thank you for following along!

So I'd like to explain a little about how Dimlight Café fell off and share some extra art and things to better get some closure on the project. First of all, I tried to revamp Dimlight Cafe twice over the years and got pretty far into it. There was a pretty decent overhaul on the story and how personality would be tracked as well as a different work space I was using that helped me organize and make notes.

As I was going forward, I wanted to incorporate these ideas, but I was without a coder! The lovely coder that assisted with the Dimlight Cafe demo kinda vanished and I don't know anything about python coding beyond the things to make the script for the VN. Plus, the character creator code is broken in my files and not retrievable so I'm unable to even test things anymore 🫠.

There was also an issue of my art workspace being changed and the files for all the sprites essentially being unobtainable. Not to mention my tablet pen broke not long after the time I was going to write Devlog #6!

Last but not least, at the time I was working on Dimlight Cafe, I was pretty recently graduated from school and out of a job so I had no money to offer my lovely team that joined me for NanoReno. Their work is waaaaaay too good to be doing so much for free, so I told them all we'd be on hiatus until I could get the capital to do so. Still having money issues to this day!

So it's just little old Whimsy again and Celestea Productions is a thing of the past. As much as I love Dimlight Cafe and all my little dragon babies, I think it's best I finally put this project out of my head for now so I can let go. I still want to make a visual novel in its entirety because I love the medium and the community so so much. That's why I'm taking another stab at NanoReno for 2025!

I hope you all have had wonderful lives in the past few years and thank you all again for following my little passion project for its short lifespan!
